Rear Seat USB Charging

We are loving Phantom, our 2019 Ram Rebel. There are a few things that the truck did not come equipped with that we are adding. The boys needed somewhere to charge their devices, and we don’t want to keep using battery packs. So we decided to install a built in USB charger for the boys iPods.

I started with a multi port USB charger made by AI AIKENUO. I took the center console apart and used the Dremel multi-tool to cut a hole for the USB charger. I used double sided tape to hold the unit in place.

After mounting the adapter I ran the cabling through the center console. I decided to use a 12v adapter so that I could disconnect the USB charger if needed. This step is not really needed as I ran the power to a switched fuse. This only gets power when the truck is running.

I then drilled a small hole in the front of the console and ran the wires through to the fuse box located under the steering wheel.

I connected the ground to a nearby bolt and the power comes from a switched fuse. I used a fuse tap to get power and added the correct fuse.

The wiring is all cleaned up now and everything works great! It was a clean and simple install. If you are interested in doing something like this in your car, drop a comment below! I would be more than happy to offer some advice. Check out the part list below. Get Up, Get Out, and Create Adventure!
